Expression Without Pressure

What is Creative Arts Therapy?

Creative Arts Therapy in New York

Creative Arts Therapy allows people to explore their feelings, thoughts, and experiences through drawing, painting, movement, storytelling, and other creative forms—not just words.

It’s a supportive way to process emotions, reduce anxiety, and gain insight, especially when talking feels overwhelming or hard to access.

At Middle Way Psychotherapy, Creative Arts Therapy in our Brooklyn, NYC practice is integrated into sessions based on the individual client’s needs and preferences. It can be used for building confidence, emotional literacy, and self-awareness—whether through metaphor, story, or spontaneous creation.

No artistic skill is required—this work is about expression, not performance.

Creative Arts Therapy FAQ

What if I’m not artistic?

That’s completely okay.

Creative Arts Therapy is about process, not talent. You don’t need to “know how” to do anything—it’s all about expression.

Do I have to use art in every session?

Not at all.

Creative tools are offered when helpful and always tailored to your comfort level. Some sessions may include them, others may not.

Is this therapy or an art class?

This is therapy.

It just uses creativity as a tool for connection and healing. Our therapists are clinically trained and licensed to provide mental health support.
